  • Hi I’m new here… my partner has been diagnosed with glioblastoma in the left temporal lobe and involves the insular and later striatum extending into the frontopariatial region beginning of September this year. We were informed that due to position and size of mass that no surgery could be given or chemotherapy. This would mean palliative care was the only option available to him. Prior to this diagnosis he was a reasonably fit man who was working. He presented at hospital after several seizures. Which initially were thought to be a stroke but after extensive test resulted in the mass being found. He is aged 61, we were told the prognosis was weeks to months and definitely not a year due to size and no treatments being given. He is currently on anti seizure medication, steroids ( to reduce swelling) and an anti psychotic to reduce agitation. We tried our best to manage at home but due to his mobility and weeks in hospital he has now had care transferred to nursing home.He spends a vast majority of the day asleep, will wake for meals and medication. He is losing mobility and toileting has become quite an issue. I just wanted to have rough idea of how long we have left as most posts I read people have had surgery or treatment, so wondered what timeline was without these. He is confused and cannot communicate with us also has no capacity now. We are now 4 months in and it’s been a tough journey for him and those involved with his care. Many thanks if anyone has any answers or advice would be appreciated greatly appreciated.
