My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer which has spread to the liver. We were told there was nothing they could do as chemo would do more harm than good. My dad battled throat cancer 7 years ago after intensive radiotherapy had to have a laryngectomy. Unfortunately, there was too much damage to the throat and he is PEG fed and cannot speak, eat or drink. Regardless of this his resilience and bravery has remained a constant. Today, we have now been told he also has mouth cancer. It just all feels so cruel and brutal. We don’t know how long we have left - I am heartbroken and trying to shield my kids who will be devastated. My dad said no to palliative care after the initial diagnosis of the stage 4 bowel and liver but I don’t know what he wants to do now. He didn’t want to communicate about it today which is understandable. I don’t expect anybody to read this. I just feel so broken and sad and angry. I don’t know what to expect. Cancer really is so cruel.
