Hi all, My dad has been unwell the last 8 weeks , loosing weight rapidly and has become so frail.
on the side line of this we had just started investigation into dementia as we noticed significant short term memory loss.
Due to this I struggled to get the GP to listen about my concerns with weight loss , reduced appetite and possible blood in stool.
Eventually over a few weeks dad had a few hospital visits for pain , dizziness , fainting. He was treated twice with antibiotics for a urine infection and a scan was later organised .
He had the CT scan on the 5th May resulting in a large tumour of 14 cm found in his caecum . His confusion has escalated and today he had a MRI head to either confirm dementia and or rule out Dementia.
We had MDM discussion yesterday and unfortunately as at the moment they say we only have a picture of something large that shouldn’t be there but can’t exactly say what it is !! Dad had already decided he didn’t want any treatment as they can’t give him a new mind !!
But we came out of the MDM with dad agreeing to a colonoscopy to confirm with histology what the growth is !!! He heard the 5 year statistic and got excited (heartbreaking) as what I’m visually seeing he seems like he is rapidly deteriorating and possibly already has had this for 5 years without knowing .
Has anyone experienced this surely a 14cm growth is advanced ?
Hi Kezzo welcome to the forum and I am so very sorry to hear what is happening for you all right now. That last conversation has given your Dad something no one else can give him and that's "hope". The conversation may change when the pathology is known but for the time being he has hope and that's keeping him compliant and upbeat. It's possibly harder for you as you can see the decline in his physical health and wonder what is at the root cause of all the physical symptoms. If it's of any help to you to have an honest, open and confidential chat with someone about how you are feeling please think about giving the Macmillan Line a call and have a chat, they are great listeners. 08088080000. Keep in touch and sending very best wishes your way for now. Gail
