Hello everyone. New to this group and this forum. My husband who is 61 was recently diagnosed with tongue cancer that is also in his lymph nodes. He is due to have major surgery on this next week with tongue reconstruction, lymph nodes removed and some teeth too. We are both terrified but I'm trying to remain positive with him and for him. Does anyone have any advice on how they have kept family members positive while dealing with their own fear?
Hi Inshuti and a warm welcome to our community.
When my wife was diagnosed ( Leiomyosarcoma ) we really did not know how things might go. The idea of keeping positive - well I wish it was easy to do as it was to type. We do have quite a good page here your feelings when someone has cancer that can be quite helpful. I know it took a lot before I first asked for help.
I later did a living with less stress course that really helped me. The bit about living in the here and now rather than looking to a future I could not control and often imagined things much worse than actually turned out - Janice is now over 10 years post diagnosis and is doing remarkable well in living with cancer.
Fingers crossed for the operation next week.
<<hugs>>
Steve
