Hi,

As the title suggests, i am new here and feeling rather overwhelmed and frustrated  if I am honest, I don't know where to start.

My dad has cancer, prostate cancer which has spread to his bones. He is in his 70's. The consultant seems unproductive, he did a round of chemo but won't talk numbers, or next steps he just keeps saying "see you In six months"  which was 12 months ago. i don't even mean survival numbers i mean anything, he won't say about test results or tell us anything (my dad has not requested this to be the case either).  Looking on the forums people talk numbers and tests and things i don't even understand ...

I am in my 30's and a carer by profession as well as being a carer for my dad, i have 2 siblings but it will be me picking up with this for my mum (who is his main carer) and i am trying to accept that or more like it understand what it means without sounding sefish.

the current thing is my dad seems depressed, he is always tired and doesn't have an appetite or doesn't want to do anything (more than his cancer symptoms) and i don't know how to go about finding himself someone to connect too or he can talk to so he knows he isn't alone.

Just a hello i guess?

  • Hello magicwhisper and a warm welcome to the forum, so sorry to hear of your dads diagnosis and the lack oy support from the hospital, I am not an expert, I was in healthcare 15 years, 5 of which were palliative, mostly cancer care, Your dad has advanced prostate cancer, he will be T4 N1 M1 and his cancer is treatable but can't be cured, Chemotherapy is a first line treatment usually started after hormone therapy HT, do you know if Your dad is on HT or how many rounds of chemo he will be having, Chemotherapy has side effects can make you feel down, tired and off your food, As i also have a terminal diagnosis i know how hard it is to pick yourself up, but most of us do, There are cancer charities all over the country who provide help and support, you colud ask your GP/surgery or your dads cancer nurse specialist CNS he/she will be at the cancer hospital, or try Maggies, search www.maggies.com  they are amazing, a drop in centre so no need to make an appointment. PS i know you are on the prostate cancer forum if you put your post on there you will get lots of help and advice from the wonderful people on there, take care.
