Hi,

Hubby is having his second tongue op on Wednesday, as the first one (end April) didn't get the margins that were needed.

Hubby told me that we didn't need to isolate before the op, but I have found the letter, and the it says we should be self-isolating / shielding (he is currently at his pre-op covid test) and we have four school-age kids.

We have had a huge row as he thinks this doesn't apply to us. We have just about compromised with him staying in the bedroom on his return, until he goes to hospital for the op, with no contact with anyone, and me bringing meals and drinks and staying in another room, so the kids can still attend school.

He accused me of trying to make his life miserable before his op, and of being selfish, but I am mortified that we presumably didn't do it right last time either. I work as a care assistant in the hosital, though am currently not working.

Am I being unreasonable?

I suspect that he is super-stressed about this op, as last time it was very risky that speech and swallowing might be ruined, and of course, those risks are there again, and recovery was miserable for him.

Thankyou for reading. Bloody Covid!!! Things could be so much simpler :(

  • Hi

You are right that Covid has made everything more complicated. I hope your husband's operation went well yesterday and you've had the opportunity to check with his team what Covid precautions you should be taking.

I think the advice can vary from hospital to hospital and also depending on the type of operation you are having. A couple of months ago my husband had to have a Covid test 5 days before he went in for a minor op and he was told that we needed to self isolate from then until he'd had his op. I'm going in for a minor op on Wednesday and have been told to self isolate after I've done my Covid test on Sunday - so only 3 days.
