My mum was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 weeks ago and we were told a biopsy would confirm the stage and that she is very likely to be offered treatment however there wouldn't be a cure. Mum went into hospital shortly after the diagnosis due to pain which they now have under control but they are moving her to a hospice tomorrow and described this as 'we know to get her there quickly'. Does this mean she's going there to die? There's no talk of a biopsy so we still don't know any next steps. I feel like we're not able to find out what is happening and due to covid, only one of us is allowed to visit 1 hour per day and in that time, mum is asleep normally and noone around to ask. On top of that, noone answers the phone when we call the ward. I don't want to bother the nurses and doctors without need but I also would like to know what the plan is. Apparently there was an MDT meeting yesterday re Mum but we haven't heard anything. Is this good news or bad news? Can anyone share any experiences please? x
So sorry to hear your news. My sister was diagnosed with BC stage 4, and within 11 weeks was diagnosed and in a hospice. They told us it was for pain control, and often it can be. She went to a hospice in Kent, and was just left to pass. They didn’t feed her but instead filled her up with drugs and just left her to sleep. It was awful. I hope this doesn’t happen to your Mum. Pls keep nagging the staff and doctors and ask why every medication is given and look into the side effects. Make sure someone goes there even if it’s for one hour. The hospice nurses were lovely but I believe better care could have been given. I wish you all the best.
Hi
So sorry to read about what is happening to you, what I would suggest in this case would be to ring our helpine 0808 808 0000 it is open 7 days a week from 8am-8pm and they will be able to give you both emotional and practical advice tailored to your situation in a rather more dynamic fashion than perhaps can be achieved via these fora. You are very welcome to call as these are exactly the sorts of issues the staff are used to helping with.
<<hugs>>
