Hi. I'm very new to this site. My husband has been diagnosed with CUP. He went into hospital with an infection and came out after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, primary unknown. They've given us 12 months. To say we are shocked is a total understatement. He's waiting for a liver biopsy. He's not eating and doesn't talk to me. He's sleepy with all the meds he's taking. I feel utterly useless and alone. Is there anyone else going through this to advise me?
Hi
Welcome to the community, though sorry to see new members join our club.
Feeling "useless and alone" - pretty much sums up every one given the shock of a cancer diagnosis especially one that comes out of the blue and is from an unknown primary - you may well have already seen our pages on cancer of unknown primary.
The biopsy might help to identify what the primary actually is. I see you have already found our group "Unknown primary Cancer" and hopefully some of the posts in there will help you to feel less alone - you are far from useless since you came here and together we are stronger.
If I were to guess your husband is still trying to process his own emotions too - the drugs can be a little unhelpful on this front and not eating is quite common and really not that helpful. The oncology team can be quite helpful in looking to ensure he does get enough nutrition even if it from quite high calorie sources that might normally be considered unhealthy.
<<hugs>>
Steve
