Hi I'm sorry to find myself here but also happy to be amongst people who are dealing with the same emotions.

It's been 10 weeks since my dad got what he thought was a cold and he's so sick now that his liver possibly isn't functioning well enough to start chemo on Tuesday.  I'm struggling to get my head around how quick this has been in honesty it's shocking.

A very brief overview of my situation.  My dad first felt Ill in March, felt wiped out and thought he had a cold turned to chest infection.  Doctors fobbed him off before eventually giving him anti biotics then steroids which did nothing.  He then developed hoarse voice and started getting severe back pain which stopped him working.  Early April he had a chest x-ray Dr said chest infection.  Also referred him for various long off appointments with cardiologist as was in AF and chest clinic.  My dad's symptoms got so bad by early May he eventually went to a&e and here he was admitted and through CT, PET and biopsy was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer which has now progressed to his liver.

I'm still praying for some treatment to help him do the things he loves for a while longer but at the moment he's just so tired and just wants to sleep all day Disappointed

Welcome to the forum, as you say you are amongst people who are dealing with the same, or similar emotions.. it is a safe place to share your feelings and allow yourself to pour your thoughts onto the page, this in turn may help with the overload of emotions that will continue to come at you.

I am so sorry to read that after several weeks of potential misdiagnosis, your Dad has now been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer, I really hope he gets some answers and treatment soon. The problem with some cancers is, they don't show themselves immediately, many are easily misdiagnosed and this is often not due to fault or negligence, it is one of the biggest frustrations I have, my husband was given various medications and considered diagnosis's before finally going to A&E himself and receiving a correct diagnosis of a different cancer.

Your Dad's is not a cancer that I have a great deal of knowledge of, but there is a Forum HERE where you will find others that will be able to support both you and Dad, it is the Lung Cancer Forum, and you will have an array of experience in one place that may be of help.

It’s maybe helpful to others if you copy and paste your original message into your profile, then other members with a similar diagnosis may be able to offer some advice. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. You can amend or update it at any time.

If Dad would like to discuss any of his concerns, the Macmillan Support Services also provide lots of information, support, financial guidance or just someone to listen.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look HERE  to see what is available.

    Thinking of you both
