Hi all, it’s coming up to a year since my dad was told he had stage 4 bowel cancer (spread to liver) which was not treatable. He already had a chronic neurological condition. He has been bed bound since Sept last year. The last few weeks he has gone downhill fairly quickly. Loosing blood and now waiting for blood tests to decide if he needs a transfusion. I fear this all means he is coming closer to the end and trying to be strong to support my mum. Has anyone got practical ways I could help them both - apart from the usual shopping etc which I already do. I am fearful of being in their home for too long at a time due to covid. Thanks x
Hi
Sorry to hear about your dad, I know when Janice needed blood transfusions it was such a boost to her it often seemed almost like a kind of battery change and she would be much better but the dip that caused a recommendation to have the transfusion was not nice to see.
Even expert oncologists find it very hard to guess when the end will come, some patients go on much longer than anyone ever expect.
In terms of practical help there are a range of ideas here that might be helpful, A key element I know I had to learn though was to make some time to look after me - because it is so easy to forget the impact on us.
<<hugs>>
Steve
