Hi everyone, my mum had her diagnosis on Wednesday of Advanced lung cancer that has spread to other lung, liver and bone. She is still waiting for final confirmation of a 21cm complex ovarian mass (under a different hospital for this). She is due to see on oncologist on 2/3 to discuss any treatment available to her. Mum is accepting but she is unsure of treatment and how this will affect her. Has anybody advise what treatment is likely and how I can best support her? Thanks xx
Hi ,
Sorry to hear about your mother and can relate to your wanting to know what will happen. Many of us remember this really quite difficult time following the diagnosis and making decisions around treatment. However even the oncologist treating your mum would not be able to say what will happen in her case - though will of course list the side effects and their relative likelihood.
It might help you to look at our Lung cancer forum where there are likely to be people at all stages of diagnosis, treatment and even perhaps people living with or even cured of cancer.
She is lucky to have you and perhaps one thing we who carer end up learning is as far as possible to treat the patients as normally as possible; the other lesson we often need to learn is how to look after ourselves and we can see in our guide looking after someone with cancer.
<<hugs>>
Steve
