My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in December. She has had surgery and is about to start chemotherapy treatment and is ok so far although it's early days. She has a grown up son who has learning difficulties so cannot fully understand or appreciate what is happening. She is finding it impossible to keep him in the house and this will cause problems when she has to isolate during her treatment so I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice. We have talked about trying to get him into some sort of respite care while she undergoes her treatment but not really sure what's out there or how to go about it.
Hi
Sorry to hear about your sister and the impact to on both her son and you. From my experience respite tends to be very regional and so it might be helpful in your case to phone the helpline 0800 808 0000, it is open 7 days a week from 8am-8pm and they are likely to be able to signpost you to services that might be appropriate in her locality.
She is lucky to have you as a sister looking our for both her and her son so hope you manage to get something sorted.
<<hugs>>
Steve
