My mum was very unexpectedly diagnosed with liver cancer about 6 weeks ago. It’s completely knocked me sideways. My dad has not long recovered from kidney cancer and to now have to face it all again with mum is devastating. Unlike with dad, where an operation was almost immediate and totally effective in curing the cancer, I don’t think mum will be as lucky as the tumour is in both lobes of the liver. The worst part is the waiting though, building ourselves up for news about how they plan to treat her after the latest test, only to find out they still have no answers and another test is on the horizon. Meantime she’s getting weaker, has no appetite and is in discomfort all the time.
I’m a single parent to two older teenage boys who are both struggling themselves with all this as they are very close to my parents, so I have to be strong for everyone whilst feeling pretty heartbroken myself. I have every sympathy for anyone else who is going through all this, I had no idea it could be so hard.
Hi Callie,
I'm so sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis, especially after being through it with your dad. My husband has secondary liver tumours on both lobes from bowel cancer, and his oncologist is still feeling positive about surgery after chemo hopefully shrinks the tumours, so I'm hoping it's the same for your mum.
The waiting is by far the worst part of all of this, I know how you feel and I hope you all get answers soon x
