Hi,

A GBM4 was diagnosed  at the beginning of April

Had 30 sessions of radiotherapy which finished on June 11th.

The last 2 weeks has being feeling so tired, sick & bad headaches.

A scan has been arranged   for 17th of August with results 8 days later.

I have spoken to review team who said that its normal to feel like this, although during &  for 6 weeks after the treatment, he had much milder symptoms

Husband has now become  very scared  that the treatment hasn't worked.

How do other people cope/ support leading up to the scan & results please

  • Hi ,

The review team are of course right that is it really quite normal to go through this pattern - does that really help - probably not much.

Being scared that the treatment might not have worked is really totally normal too, so often on here we sometimes refer to it as scanxiety. An issue can come up though when worry about what is yet to come stops us enjoying today. I get that, when my wife was diagnosed I was worried about how I would cope without her - well that was over 6 years ago now and she is still with us.

I did a course of living with less stress and in really taught me to appreciate the here and now. It also if anything brought my wife and I closer than ever we are a team living with cancer and her health is quite remarkable. I only got their with the support of friends especially those living with cancer. The one thing my wife hates with a passion though it when someone tells her she is so brave - she will point out that she was not given a choice.

There are some great tips in Looking after someone with cancer for how to process our own emotions since that help us to help those we love for.

Do post whenever you feel the need, someone will be here listening.

    <<hugs>>

    Steve

    Thank you,

I did contact the CNS who has arranged for N. to speak to  a clinical psychologist, which is good, but the appointment is 2 days after we get the results.

We were also given a free app from the hospital which includes mindfulness & relaxation which is helping both of us.

Another B.T. Charity contacted N so he has been able to join another discussion  group.

    Thank you for your reply

    1. Hi, just found your message. Please join the glioblastoma group. My husband as diagnosed last Sept. Radiotherapy effects everyone so differently, Graham was a bit frazzled after every session but many feel dreadful. Looking at your message husband has had scan yesterday, hope you're both ok.  Take care love Lisa x

    Thanks Lisa

N did have his scan yesterday, which went well.

We went for a pub lunch with friends after the scan (the first time for 6 months).

We went for a walk this morning with daughter & grandchildren, & had a lovely time.

    N. is much brighter & he hasn't gone to bed yet this evening, usually  its about 7.

I'm hoping to get as many distractions, to keep our minds off the results in a weeks time.

Its going to be a very long week
