So i dont often post, short story my mum has Myloema 2.5 yrs, my brother has AML, diagnosed sept last year. So my brother got hospitalised during covid for lung infection..fast forward 6 wks later ,some small improvement.. He came home today, but before coming home( mum and dads house) lived there for a few yrs.. he rang me and asked if i could go back down hospital with him on Wednesday. I said yes, done it before to be taught how to give him chemo over lockdown. Then he told me.. that they spoke to him today and they have no more treatments to offer him, the lung problem isnt getting better and despite specialised chemo the luekemia is worsening.. They want him to bring a family member next week as they will be able to give him full results from his last lumber punch, to give him a rough idea on how much time he has.. now I was a nurse for years, i was there with my nan when she was told with her lung cancer... but im struggling if im honest. I know it's a bout him, not me.. Do what he needs to get through .. I need those big girl pants on, but im feeling rough atm.. I will not let him down..I MUST be strong for him, for my parents and for my kids..it's a lot.. do i have enough of me..???
Hello, so sorry to hear what you are all going through, it sounds really tough. Try & get help & support for yourself. Its important you look after yourself otherwise you won't be well enough to support your brother, mum, your kids & family. You could have a chat with someone at Macmillan or ask if you can have counselling to develop some more coping mechanisms- mindfulness, walks etc.
Could someone else also come with your brother and you to the appointment? If not ensure you have someone to talk to afterwards.
I'm not medically trained & it's harder to cope when it's about your brother & mum. My husband has AML & GVHD and my brother has myeloma so I know it can't be easy.
Take care and I hope you all get the help & support you need.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
