Hi everyone my mum was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer and has had her large intestine removed other than that i dont know much else yet is this normal ?  Or is she hiding stuff from me should we know more by now ? Sorry for all the questions my mum is single parent I'm in my early 30s but we are so close close enough she will try to protect me at all costs I know that for sure I've tryed talking to her but I'm not pushing anything I'm just struggling to know how I can help when I don't know what's next

  • Hi ,

Sorry to hear about your mum and the impact her illness is having on you.

It is possible rather than her to be hiding things that she is trying to process all the information herself. My father was always a very private man and wanting to seem strong would do anything to hide his illness and of course parents almost always want to protect their children. With a recent diagnosis though there might just not be a lot to tell.

We do have a guide talking with someone who has cancer that perhaps you could read and share with you mum so that you support each other.

Do come here whenever you need support, we all understand - it is hard but together we can make a difference.

    <<hugs>>
