Support for my dad

My dad has been living with secondary liver cancer for 7 years unfortunately over a month ago, the cancer spread to his bile duct and caused jaundice which doctors cannot treat. This means he can no longer receive chemotherapy.

We are all devastated but keen to spend whatever time we have with my dad.

It would appear one of the side effects he's experiencing right now is severe itchiness across his whole body. Doctors gave him anti-histamine cream and tablets but it's not working which is keeping him awake throughout the night which means he's absolutely knackered during the day. It's really getting him down.

I'm desperate to help my dad in any way I can and was wondering if anyone in this forum had experience of this and anything that could help?

Thanks, Emma

    Hi Emma  /

Warm welcome to the club no one wants to join, but sorry to read about your dad Disappointed

I'm not medically trained or have much experience with this but we know our way around here well so can hopefully give you some pointers.

If the anti-histamine isn't helping your dads itchiness, this could be down to the level of bilirubin in his blood ?

I had a browse around the Bile cancer Group and did a search for Itchiness and you can read the results clicking here.

You could join the Bile Group and ask about this there ?

Some of the messages go way back but may well still be relevant, so you will have to 'cherry pick' your way through them.  Seems like there are meds that can help with this, or in more severe cases a billiary drain can be fitted ?

Hope this is of some help for now, and he can get the itchiness eased.

    Best Wishes, G n' J
