Hi my dad has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We’ve been told it’s too late for treatment. I don’t know what to expect we’ve had no support from the GP as to his care plan ect. Our family is new to all this as we haven’t had to deal with anything like this before. We feel alone
Hi
I would just like to echo my friend latchbrook in welcoming you to the community. Like everyone following a cancer diagnosis it is very much a shock and it often takes time for things to fall in to place - and I am sure covid-19 has done nothing to help that.
While I am so sorry that it is too late for treatment your father should if he needs be offered palliative care, this is a form of treatment that helps to live more comfortably in treating symptoms rather than the cancer. Of course there may be no need and so it is important to talk to the GP and even the oncology team. If there is something we can do here we do have our Ask a Nurse where people get answers from our qualified nurses and of course you are more than welcome to ring the helpline if you need 0808 808 0000.
It might help you to look at our pages on Looking after someone with cancer especially the coping with being a carer and who can support me and I hope they make you fell less alone. Something we all need to learn is being kind to ourselves so we can offer the best care possible to those we love.
<<hugs>>
Steve
