Aswell as having to break the news to all family members.

How does everyone deal with recent diagnosis and being unable to visit family member?

Main diagnosis was explained and shown by neurologist to family meber and myself 4 days ago.

Been Difficult having discussions with all medical teams included with my mother is laws care plan and treatment going forward due to coronavirus.

Can anyone offer any support or guidance?

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that your mother-in-law has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour. It must be a very hard time for the whole family, not helped by the social distancing rules currently in place.

You might find it helpful to join the brain tumours group as this will enable you to ask questions, share experiences and get support from other who have a tumour themselves, or who have a family member with a brain tumour.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Although you can't visit your mother-in-law at present could you speak to her via Facetime, Skype, etc. It can be difficult to know what to say so you might want to have a look at this information produced by Macmillan on talking to someone with cancer. You could also download this booklet which might give you a better understanding of what your mother-in-law is going through and has a helpful chapter on things to avoid saying.
