i thought i'd come on here because although my friends and family are so amazing and supportive i wanted to speak to people who have been through the same thing. last march my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and in may that year he had the whipple surgery to remove it. this was successful and he recovered well but because in the surgery they noticed some cancer in a lymph node he had to have chemo. he finished his 12 rounds of chemo around december time and a month before he had a scan which showed the cancer hadn't came back. 6 months later to now he had another routine scan yesterday to see whether it's came back or not and i'm so so worried. he suffered from enormous pain during his cancer and would be going through boxes and boxes of tablets but since his chemo his pain has reduced massively and he's been getting back to his normal self. however in the past couple weeks i've noticed he's started to be in a lot of pain again and has started to take painkillers almost every half an hour. seeing this makes me so worried about the scan results as it would break me for him to have to go through it all again but i just wanted to post this to get it out there and if anyone who's going through the same thing
Hi and welcome to the online community
It's natural to worry that your dad's cancer may come back, especially when he's just had a scan. Knowing that he's waiting for results has probably brought back all those painful memories for you of when he was first diagnosed. You might find this information about how to ease worry when waiting for medical results helps you. Although it's aimed at the patient there's still a lot of relevant information for you.
You've also mentioned that your dad is taking lots of painkillers. Do you know if he's told his hospital team that he's in a lot of pain? It may be that he just needs his pain medication altering but his team would want to know if his symptoms or level of pain has altered.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if you could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
