Mum now classed as extremly vulnerable - NHS assistance?

Hi All,

We have finally received mum's diagnosis, she has lung cancer and will start radiotherapy within 3 weeks.  My question is as follows;

I previously registered her on the NHS site as a vulnerable person but because she hadn't received her full diagnosis she wasn't recognised as extremely vulnerable.   The consultant has confirmed today she should be classed as extremely vulnerable and must undertake shielding (which she has been doing anyway).

How do I now get her correctly added to the extremely vulnerable group please?  I couldn't see a way to do it via the GOV website and her existing application.

All she received prior to now was a text saying her case would be verified with her Dr since she is not on the recognised list.  The Dr won't be as up to date as the consultant so how do I get everything matched up?

Ideas on a postcard???

Take care x

P.S I have to mention our hero Captain Tom Moore, what an absolute superstar :-)

  • Hi , this page looks like it can be used to register someone as extremely vulnerable.

    Hope that helps.

    Ahhh, thank you Steve much appreciated.

    The problem is that I previously applied via the website you have linked to but because she didn't have a letter (was mid diagnosis/examinations etc) it didn't automatically put her in the extremely vulnerable group but has put her in a group requiring further clarification where she has been stuck now for a while.  They said they would contact her GP but the GP isn't up to speed with things as she's under consultant care and only just got the formal diagnosis and confirmation she must shield as of yesterday.  She has been shielding all the way through anyway.  I just need to update her record now that she is formally at risk as per the consultants guideline.  I'll drop the GP surgery and email and ask for their advice when they get a moment, bless them.

    Thanks again, take care.

  • Hi , not that is is much help but Janice only got her letter on Saturday but has been phoned 3 times now by the NHS to check if she has signed up already. Given that she has not had any active treatment now in about 6 years she did not really consider herself that vulnerable.

    Oh well, whatever next?
