Hi everyone.

My Mum just been diagnosed but still have investigations going on as they are not sure where it has originated from, she has had blood tests, and scan and xray which shown she has lesions in her lungs  liver and bones, since then a biopsy of her liver, more blood tests and ct scan of her pelvic region. Everything is taking time because of the virus, the consultant said she can offer chemo which will help control as there is nothing else they can really do. I'm just worried with all the waiting it will be too late.

Already have my dad living with cancer, he has prostate  cancer which has spread but being controlled by an injection.

Not sure what else I can do as I cant stand seeing my mum suffering the way she is.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

It must be very hard for you at the moment, waiting for tests and results for your mum when you already have your dad living with prostate cancer.

Waiting for tests and results is naturally a very anxious time and it's common to worry that the cancer will be growing quickly while this is happening. However, most cancers are slow growing and will not have changed much, if at all, during the time the tests and scans are being conducted.

It's also very important that your mum's consultants understand where her cancer has originated so that they can tailor a treatment plan exactly for her.

You say that you mum is suffering so, if you haven't already, could you give your mum's CNS a call as they wouldn't want your mum to be in any pain or discomfort.

    Sending a supportive ((hug))

Hello. Latchbrook, thank you so much for replying.

Well the consultant rang me today, she says it's looking like it is cancer of the colon, lower part of the bowel so sigmoid cancer.  It is classed as stage 4.  She said it as now been passed onto the lower GI team at the hospital and they will be having a meeting in the few days to discuss where we go from here.

The consultant said normally they would offer chemotherapy which could help hold and control the cancer but with the current situation she may not get offered any treatment at all, as 1..the risk of going into hospital for any treatment at this present time is not something they want to do to patients and 2..the side effects of the treatment its self may be too much for her and may make her feel worse than what' she does now, so now we have another 2 weeks wait whilst they discuss this. In the meantime I was told to contact our own gp and to discuss setting up a care plan for my mums needs, my mum herself says shes fine and doesn't need any help.

It's just the waiting, already waited 2 weeks and now another 2 weeks. My mum is staying positive and I'm but have times that I just can't help feeling the worse is happening.
