Hi there,

I’m wondering does anyone know the official guidelines on different relatives looking after a terminal family member. My cousin has been my aunt’s main cater but needs a break this weekend. My aunt has been given less than 2 weeks to live. I want to go and help but my husband thinks I could be stopped by the police and fined.
Would appreciate any advice anyone can give.
thanks, Lou

    Hi Lou

It's wonderful thing that you've realised that your cousin needs a break from looking after your aunt and want to help out.

Your husband is perfectly correct you could be stopped by the police but as your travel falls into one of the acceptable reasons which is "any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person" you just need to inform the police office of this and he should let you proceed without any problems.

    Before setting off ask yourself

Am I showing any signs of the virus, if any doubt don't go.

If you are okay remember to take your hand sanitiser kit with you, spray your hands as soon as you enter the front door and keep washing your hands at regular intervals to keep both yourself and aunt safe.

I hope giving your cousin a break will recharge the batteries and he/she will find a safe self isolating room where no interaction with yourself  is possible.

    Take care and keep safe.

    Ian.
