Just found out mum has ovarian cancer age 51 huge tumor and raised ca125. No symptoms. Totally out of the blue. Feel like my whole world is crumbling. Dad is in bits having lost his parents recently too. Live on another continent and feel totally helpless. Angry at the world. Scared about all the uncertainty. Waiting for more scans and staging. Can't bring myself to do anything except cry. Will this ever get better? What can I do to help from afar?
Hi , sorry to hear about your mum and your grandparents. Your reactions sound very normal and crying can be very therapeutic - I certainly feel that way from time to time.
How is your mum at the moment and what sort of support network do your parents have? If/when they need it they might want to speak to someone about getting a needs assessment for your mum and a carers assessment for your dad. It might help your dad to talk to someone about how he is feeling, he would be more than welcome to phone the helpline here 0808 808 0000 open 8am-8pm every day.
How techie are your parents, the wonders of skype etc and a video call can make us all feel closer where ever we might be.
<<hugs>>
Steve
