Hi, my Grandmum has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and my friend has NF2 and they are both undergoing chemotherapy to shrink their tumours. My Grandmum is having the more aggressive chemo so she’s getting really sick and I hate seeing her like that, I try to concentrate so hard in school but I can’t stop worrying about her. I also have to help my friend a lot in school so she can catch up as she misses school every other Friday to go and have her treatment, I’m having to do so much on my own and so much for her that it’s putting so much pressure on me. It’s hard because I really want to help her. Most weekends I’m supposed to be revising for exams, but I always go out with my family because I want to make the most of it while my Grandmum is still here. I just need to know that I’m not the only one going through this and I just want someone to hug me and tell me it’s all going to be ok. Do you have any advice?

  • Hello

Do the school know you are going through all this? Can anyone else help you to help your friend catch up with her work? Talk to your form tutor or your head of year or any teacher you find approachable. The school need to know if you're finding it difficult to concentrate. Pastoral care is as much a part of the teacher's role as helping you to learn. You sound like a really caring person and you shouldn"t have to cope with all this pressure on your own. I would imagine you are trying to be brave so as not to worry your parents but they will also want to support you. Try talking to your parents or a sibling.

I hope you find the support you need.
