Hi I have just decided to join this group as I need to talk to someone. My husband was diagnosed with stomach cancer last year and has his stomach removed and lots of chemotherapy but this week we have been told that he has between 3 and 6 months left. I don’t know what to do and feel so desperate

  • Hi acker 68, I'm sorry to read about your dad's prognosis.

You might find it useful to join the Carers only and Stomach cancer  groups. Even if you're not actually his carer, u may get support from others in thoset groupswho are in a similar situation to you.

You could also ring the helpline on 0808 808 0000, 8am to 8pm 7 days/ week. Or if you prefer talking face to face, look at "In your area" on the home page to see if there's a Macmillan or Maggie's centre near you.

You might also want to private message vickiF as she's in a similar position regarding her husband?

Can you add a bit to your profile to update it too? Thanks

There was also  a post from acker68 whose dad is affected like your husband. You might want to private message each other?

Can you add a bit to your profile so ppl know where you're " coming from" as it were? Saves u having to keep repeating yourself too

  • Hi  and  and a second welcome to the online community

I'm really sorry to hear that you both have someone you love with incurable stomach cancer so it's no wonder that you don't know how to cope and feel desperate.

I see that  has suggested that you join the carers only group acker68 but I need to point out that that group is only for carers so, if you're not your dad's carer, then a better group for you would be the supporting someone with incurable cancer group. Just like the carers group it's a safe place to discuss your worries.

However, VickiF could join either or both the supporting someone with incurable cancer or the carers only group.

Buttercup01's suggestion of joining the stomach cancer group is a good idea VickiF as it will give you the opportunity to discuss current treatments and also find out if other members of the community with incurable stomach cancer are aware of any trials that are currently available.

To join any of the groups that you feel might help either of you just click on the links that I have created.

You don't need to send private messages to each other to be able to support one another. In fact, public discussions are better because people joining or searching for information benefit from what others have posted. Private messages are better used when people have struck up a friendship over time on this site and want to be able to talk privately about matters not related to cancer.

Sending both of you a supportive ((hug))
