hello everybody,
i am absolutely distraught, my grandad was diagnosed yesterday with terminal lung cancer and only has up to a year left. I’ve never had to deal with this before, I suffer from anxiety so it’s making it 10X harder to cope with. I don’t know how to deal with this and don’t know if I have the strength to get through it. He is more like my dad and he’s only 70, he’s the most amazing person in my life, I really cannot believe it. Will this get easier to cope with? Because right now I can’t see myself getting through it. Please help
Hi and welcome to the community, though sorry to hear about your grandad. A cancer diagnosis is always challenging but it is really amazing what we find we can cope with when we really have no choice. A prognosis is best considered a guess and is not often helpful. Patients often say I want to be treated normally and many find they get good days and bad days, talking things through though can be realy helpful. Does it get easier to cope with, well I am in a better place now than I have been but then we have been living with cancer to 6 years now.
<<hugs>>
Steve
