I hope it's OK to ask about this subject and I hope that readers will understand that I only ask because my mum has no other options left. She has stomach cancer and has been given weeks/ months to live. She can't be operated on and may not be given any further chemo. We have read stories about cannabis oil stopping tumours in their tracks and are ready to try pretty much anything. Does anybody have any experience with this? Has it worked? Of course I have no idea how to get it but clutching at straws we are now interested in any other options, no matter how desperate.

    Hi

So sorry to read how poorly your mum has become :(

There are trials ongoing using cannabinoids but as far as curing cancer goes - nothing has been proven as yet.

It is true there are stories out there about cannabis curing cancer but there is a world of difference between cannabis killing a few cancer cells in a glass dish in a lab to having a proven drug derived from it, that has been designed through trials and is safe to be used internally.

There may well be some cancer treatments derived from cannabis in the future but it is highly unlikely these will be anywhere near similar to the cannabis products you can purchase now.

CRUK has this extensive cannabinoid information page you can read - Realise you want to do all you can to help but please don't be taken in by all the hype, there are a lot of scoundrels out there very willing to cash in on others misfortune :(

Probably not the reply you were hoping for, but hope you find the cancer research info of use.

    Take care, G n' J

I am so sorry to read about your Mum and I feel for you as I have been in the same position with my sister, thinking that I would loose her in a very short space of time.  This is our story.

Over 2 years ago, she was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumour that was inoperable. It was very large almost the size of a small egg. She was initially given radiotherapy and Chemo.  She is an holistic therapist so was against the chemo though she knew the radiotherapy was something she must go through.  The tumour reacted well to the radiotherapy but the type of tumour she has is the most aggressive and she was told she should take Chemo for the rest of her life.  One year ago after feeling so ill with the chemo she stopped taking it.  She decided to take Cannabis oil.  She researched this on the internet. She also takes bicarb of soda, raw juicing each day and meditation.  Last week, meeting with her consultant after her scan, the tumour is now the size of a pea and he said in 40 years he has never seen this with her type of tumour.  She confessed to him months ago that this is the path she would go down and although he said she needed the chemo, he knew it was her decision.  We are overjoyed to think that her positivity and courage to take this alternative route may be the reason the tumour has reduced by so much.  I can only say that I believe this has worked for my sister as it must have attacked the cancer cells.  Without the chemo what else could have reduced the mass?  I wanted to share this as it would be wrong of me to keep quiet when I believe that the cannabis oil has helped. None of us know if this will be ongoing, I only hope so and that the tumour will disappear on the next scan that she will have in 12 months time.

From the time of diagnosis, she would not accept anything other than doing it her way.  This is our experience and I hope you don't mind me sharing.  It is for each of us to deiced what to do or try when faced with very few choices.  Have courage to do what you think best as it is done out of love.   My sister says, listen to your gut instinct, it is never wrong.  I wish you all the very best.

Love and light to you and yours. xx

    Hi ,

I'm so sorry to read about your mum and that her treatment hasn't worked. This must be such an incredibly difficult time for you and I can see why you are so keen to try something complementary to her treatment. There are a whole range of complementary therapies which you can consider.

It might be a good idea to call our support line and speak to someone on there about the different treatment options which she could explore. The nurses on there are cancer experts and can really clear up some of the things about cannabis which you may have heard. It's free to call and open Mon-Fri, 9-8 (Although not open over the bank holiday weekend).

Cancer Research has a very good section of their website on Cannabis, cannabinoids and cancer

    They state:

"At the moment, there simply isn’t enough evidence to prove that cannabinoids – whether natural or synthetic – works to treat cancer in patients, although research is ongoing. "

"We also don’t know whether cannabinoids will help to boost or counteract the effects of chemotherapy, nor which combinations of drugs might be good to try. And there are currently no biological markers to help doctors identify who might benefit from cannabinoids and who might not"

I hope some of this is useful and you can use some of this when thinking about the next steps in your mum's treatment.

    All the best,

    Jess

  •  have you discussed this with your mum and her oncolgy team. You need to be very careful with even simple every day drugs while you are being treated let alone things more on the margins of medecine. The cancer research page above is very clearly written and explains the issues.

Wish we all were not here.

Thanks Steve,  my message was removed coz I'd asked about C O!!! Lol. We are very new to all this and concerned about her treatment!  All we are being offered is radiotherapy to reduce the sarcoma in her back!

Jes , realising this is an old(ish) posting by yourself I'm wondering if Macmillan and Cancer Research still have the same views on the human cannabinoid system to keep this strong statement ?

    Hi ,

    Thanks for your question.

Macmillan aims to provide anyone in the UK affected by cancer with practical, emotional, clinical and financial information and support in a variety of ways.  Macmillan’s’ current position statement with regards to Complementarity and Alternative therapies is on our website.

Our information is in a constant cycle of review and update to ensure it is as accurate as possible. Should evidence become available that demonstrates benefits of cannabis oil in treating cancer, then we will be able to provide accurate information about it.

Making decisions about cancer treatments, or other non-conventional therapies, is challenging without clear evidence. Even where we have good evidence for treatments - we cannot guarantee that every person with cancer will experience that benefit. There are so many factors that come into play for any one individual.

At Macmillan we completely uphold the right of every person to decide what treatments they are willing to have or not have.

I hope you find this useful.

    Best wishes

    Jess

I know a close friend who spent hundreds on this oil and it did nothing except make him feel like a zombie. I'm so sorry about your mum - I'm going through it with my father right now and it's horrendous. Just don't want you to waste your money on this as even if it had a placebo effect on your mum, it's too expensive.

    Big hugs

    Bee xx

Hi there! I hope your mom is still doing fine. But here's a link about CBD oil that might help you. It's about the benefits someone who's taking it can get. https://uk.formulaswiss.com/blogs/cannabis-cbd/33-cbd-oil-benefits?_pos=6&_sid=9a4b409ef&_ss=r
    I hope that'll help you!

Very sorry to hear about your Mother. Although it may be true that CBD oil may or may not treat cancer, there are several research that shows CBD oil can actually be beneficial.

    Good luck and stay strong!
