Hi Wave

I’ve just been diagnosed today and feel mind blown !
struggling to sleep as scared to not wake up .
I know it’s a crazy thought but really feeling the anxiety .
Wondering if anyone else has had these feels Disappointed

what a crazy day

  • Hi Blush

That's completely understandable that you'd be anxious. I also struggle to sleep, my MIL is the one with the diagnosis, we are extremely close and I am struggling to imagine life without her.

I hope you manage to fall asleep Sparkling heart  if I struggle to sleep most of the night this can help sometimes, if you lie on your back and think about how your body is resting, rather than sleeping that way you're still getting some 'rest' or you can make a nice hot drink before going back to bed.

I'm so sorry you have had such a crazy day

  • Thank you for your reply Purple heart

I did manage to sleep with a sleep hypnosis recording Pray

Thinking about my body needing to rest and recharge is exactly what is needed.
I will have many crazy days ahead so sleep is going to be so important.

I am sorry about your MIL diagnosis. It’s such a bizarre situation it throws everyone into. It effects not only the person but everyone around them.

Telling people yesterday was one of the hardest things I have ever done and so hard to see the shock and overwhelming feelings of people I love Purple heart

So many emotions and frightening thoughts

    Xx

  • Hi  and welcome to the Macmillan Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time.

I know this ever since well as I have been on my rollercoaster for over 25 years with 2 very rare types of Lymphoma (blood cancer) one being incurable.

The one thing I learned quickly is sleep is very important.

We can throw all the stress in the world at this but in the end it makes no difference to outcomes…… but just makes us ill.

The one thing I do when I am keep awake by thoughts running round my head was to ‘mind dump’ in my note books….. these thoughts were often in the form of questions that I would ask at my next appointments - information is power, power to control the brain and not let the what if’s? define us….. we need to define as much of the journey as we can….. and leave the medical stuff to your team.

You will find that getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)………… but you don’t say what type of cancer you have If you care to have a look through this link Cancer Specific Groups you will find all our dedicated cancer support groups listed.

These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from members who are navigating the exact same journey.

Have a look through the LIST above and once you find the support group for your cancer type....... click on the link and when the group page opens you will see a [Black - Click to Join - Banner] at the bottom of the page, click in this box and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

    All the very best.
