All of these emotions Just Now

Hi All

I was diagnosed with terminal small cell lung cancer just 5 weeks ago with a prognosis of 9 months. I then switched into Mr Organised and did not stop until everything was in good order.

I have had 2 rounds of chemo and the support has been phenomenal, I truly have a fantastic supportive family.

I now feel that I have crashed and all the emotions are flooding in one after another and I am struggling to cope. Of course, I am tired and the does not help, but I have started to take my frustrations out on my wife and she deserves better.

I am a loss as to what to do, can’t keep lying in my bed feeling sorry for myself, but every “job” I seem to run out of energy half way through and that just builds the frustration.

Sorry to whinge and whine, but I would really welcome others opinion / experiences.

  • Hi  and I see it’s your first post on the Community so welcome.

I have lived and been treated for my type of Incurable blood cancer for over 24 years so my journey is very different and I can only relate in part to how you are feeling at the moment but talking with others who are navigating the ‘exact same path’ can help a lot.

Can I suggest you join and post in our dedicated Living with incurable cancer - incurable patients only (Please join the group but for everyones safety this will then have to be approved by the Macmillan Community Team so will not happen immediately)…… this group is a safe open place to talk with other folk who are in the same position as yourself.

Where nothing is off the table and honest first hand experience is shared.

‘Talking’ to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This free service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

    All the very best.

  • Thanks for taking the time to respond. Your advise make perfect sense. I shall look into the option of face to face, I believe that both my wife and I would benefit.

    Thanks

  • Macmillan have also teamed up with Bupa to offer up to 6 free counselling sessions for people struggling emotionally because they are living with cancer. Clicking on the link will give you more information about this.

You may also find our Telephone Buddy Service helpful where you can be matched with someone who understands what you're going through, and they'll give you a weekly call.

There are a number of doors available, give them a push and see if you find something that clicks for you.
