Chemo induced neuropathy

Hi, I finished ABVD 6 cycles for Hodgkin Lymphoma in October. They removed the Vinblastin after cycle 4, but I'm left with neuropathy that affects my mobility. Basically I can't walk well. Before cancer I ran 10 miles a week and I'm really struggling to find a way back to the fit and slim(er) person I was. I have had physio and have a orthotic aid for drop foot whcih stop me falling and slightly improves my gait. Overall I sense it's improving but at a snails pace. People are really lovely but I feel I'm not the person I was and not the person I thought I would be. This upsets me deeply  but I don't talk about it.

I feel I am grateful for being cured of cancer but the price on my quality of life is high and people don't get that.

Are there any tales to keep me optimistic or forums specifically for this issue?

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see you joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.

I see that you have joined our Hodgkin lymphoma group. Could i suggest that you consider you put your post up in that group as well as this will widen your reach for members who have the same problems.

Peripheral neuropathy unfortunately can be one of the more challenging side effects. I have a different type of Lymphoma that is incurable and a different journey (hit my community name for my story)

I had some mobility problems with a little PN following my final treatments that put me in a wheelchair for a few months. I had to have twice weekly Physiotherapy appointments to get me up and walking with walking sticks...... eventually getting back to some normality. mY MAIN pn was in my hands and this took years to clear....... this can take time unfortunately.

You may want to check ou Lymphoma Actions Lymphoma Online Support Groups...... I highly recommend these groups as there is nothing better than talking with other who have walked the journey.
