I contacted Macmillan about the counselling they offer which is through BUPA. BUPA contacted me and I did the wellbeing assessment. They said that I need some support and have referred me to Onebright. I have heard nothing since. Has anyone else used this service and what was the waiting time? I can't afford to go private, but realise that I need to sort something. My main problem is that I'm not able to leave the house to just walk down the road,
Hi Gezzelin, sorry to hear about the challenges you are facing.
Could I suggest you call Onebright and see how your referral is progressing as it often takes getting your pointy elbows into the doors of these organisations.
It took alot to admit that I need help. Don't know if I'll be able to chase them. I'll leave it abit longer and see how it goes.
From my 23 years living with my cancer and all the appointments I have had there have been a number of times that I had fallen through the cracks in the system and it was ‘that’ all that made the difference to get things back on track.
Do also check out for a local Maggie's Centre in your area as these folks are amazing and provide one on one support. I have used their excellent services on a number of occasions.
Hi Gezzelin , I too struggled badly with my mental health . I had anxiety before diagnosis but during snd after treatment my nerves where just awful . I told my colorectal nurse how bad I was struggling and she put me in touch with the hospital psychiatrist through Macmillan. It was pretty quick . I had about 6 sessions which really helped . I was also put on antidepressants. Hope this helps . Take care XX
I phoned Onebright on Monday and was told that someone would be intouch within 24 hours. I've heard nothing. My oncologist is arranging for an appointment for another CT scan. I've no idea how I'm going to manage to get there. All the oncologist said was that I would have to try hard and get there. I'm disgusted with Macmillan, you would think an organisation like this would now how difficult things are day to day. Without having to repeatedly ask for help and just be ignored.
