My cancer journey started over 3 months ago! I was struggling to breath and I thought I had a chest infection after a trip to the doctor he gave me antibiotics! They didn’t touch it so I returned and was given different antibiotics same again didn’t touch it! I phoned 111 as I was really struggling to breath and they sent a ambulance I waited a long time on a&e and was sent for a chest x ray x I had fluid on my lung x my lung needed draining so I had to stay in x while I was in I was sent for a ct scan which found a large mass on my ovary it was a tumour! I was in and out of the hospital a lot in the next 3 months as the tumour was causing the fluid but they wasn’t dealing with the tumour straight away so my lung kept filling with fluid x eventually I had a drain put in to stay in so I could get the lung drained at home! (Over 80hours sat on a&e to get my lung drained) I then had a meeting with a surgeon at Leeds who had said it would be best to have a full hysterectomy so I went in a few days later for surgery! Whilst in surgery they found a lump in my bowel and some nobules in my rectum x they removed part of my colon and they removed the lump in my bowel! My recovery was painful but after 8 days I came home to spend Christmas with my family x 2 weeks later I met with my surgeon again for the results and she said it’s a low grade cancer it started in my appendix which is close to the bowel and ovaries that’s why i ended up with the tumour x I’m waiting for the mdt on Monday to see what treatment I’ll need x if anyone has had a similar experience I’d love to here from you xx regards sally Delilah xx

  • Hi , I see this is your first post on the community so warm welcome although I am so sorry to hear about the journey you have been on.

This is such a challenging and stressful time for you but I do hope you will find lots of support and comfort as you interact on the Online Community.

The Online Community has many cancer specific support groups. These are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support. Have a look through this list where you will find all our many dedicated cancer support groups listed.

If you'd like to connect in with any of the groups, you need to join the group. First click on the Green link I have created above and find the groups that fit your journey.

Then once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Joinbutton under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New (Computers) or + (Mobile Devices). You will then see a dropdown menu so hit Start a Discussion in New here, say hello’ and you are ready to go.

You could copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also search through existing ‘Discussions’ and click [reply] if you want to put up a comment.

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via web chat. This service provides cancer information, emotional support, benefits and financial guidance or just a listening ear. You may also find our Ask an Expert section helpful but do allow a few working days for a reply.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

Talking to people face to face can indeed help a lot but during these strange times it’s not that available but do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area has opened up. Do also check out for a local Maggie's Centre in your area as these folks are amazing.

Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.

    All the very best ((hugs))
