Hi Everyone,

I have been a little unsure of where to turn recent and whether or not to ask for any help but after a bit of an up and down week I thought i'd try here.

I had a fairly quick battle with cancer, I had a large tumour developed from testicular cancer, after 9 weeks of quite a bit of chemo and an operation I quickly recovered around January.

The full thing seems a bit of a blur. I don't remember being too down or ever upset during it however over the last two months I've really been feeling it.

I split up with my girlfriend and felt totally worthless, abandoned and isolated while I tried to get back to normality. I have always been really positive throughout this and stayed focussed on the good things and getting back to full fitness and health. I have been incredibly lucky and my case was so straight forward so I feel bad even for saying I am struggling a bit at times.

I was wondering if anyone has similar experiences? It's a strange feeling that's hard to explain, I feel completely lost at times and don't really remember who I was before cancer or who I am meant to be now. That might be so daft to say but it's hard to put in words.

If anyone has felt the same, would therapy be something you'd recommend?

Thanks for reading!

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear how you're feeling now after having successfully come through cancer treatment. I think it's something that we all recognise to one degree or another.

I haven't had any form of therapy, so can't share any experiences of that with you, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any responses yet. I hope you don't mind me suggesting another couple of groups for you to join and post in. The first is the Testicular cancer forum group and the second is the Life after cancer forum group. In the former you'll find others who have dealt with the same type of cancer that you have and in the latter, other people who are coming to terms with having had a cancer diagnosis.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • . Hi, I’m in a similar situation, I’ve finished current treatment for prostrate cancer, being managed long term.  Like prostrate cancer a little bit of manhood, or what sometimes we define ourselves by has been taken away, I missed out on promotion in work and whilst cannot prove and convinced it’s down to cancer.   It’s taking time to come to terms with my new reality, and consequences of cancer.  Some days are better than others.  My go has prescribed meds and also referred me for therapy at the local hospital, hopefully this will help
