Excercise and wellbeing advice - age appropriate

Unfortunatly I have a cancer that is usually for those who are 70+. I had a major operation and treatment will potter along for a while.

I need to physically recover and be as fit as possiable, within my current constraints.

Most of what I read describes excercise goals as "doing the housework" and "walking to the shops". These are not good goals or expectations for me. Immediately before all this I used to hike and was a competitive tennis player. I can't do what I used to do. I want to do some excercise non the less.

HAS ANYONE COME ACROSS ANY GOOD FITNESS, EXCERCISE AND WELLBEING ADVICE THAT IS NOT 70+ ORIENTATED? No age offense intended, I appreciate I have ended up in an older space but it is hard to stay motivated whilst reading about housework. I would love to read something that resonates.

I might have missed a good resource. If anyone has any advice, it is much appreciated.

  • Hi

I am approaching 70 and would be horrified with the expectation of housework and walking to the shops being enough! I am a member of a Nuffield Gym and they do run various programmes aimed at rehab. They also have personal trainers who are used to working with all sorts of different things. I think I would go down the route of finding a professional who can guide you and it’s absolutely right you should aim a lot higher. I know someone who has a liver transplant and got back to marathon running, so it’s perfectly possible to recover from fairly major surgery if you approach it properly. Hiking and sport seem reasonable aims to me. I think everyone who has had a cancer diagnosis needs to focus on being as active as they can.
