Starting Capecitabine

  1. Just joined the forum. My husband has just had high anterior bowel resection for colon cancer. He had T2 N1 M0. He was expecting it to be stage 1 so was devastated when it was Stage 3. It was made worse because he found out he had bowel cancer after we were preparing for his younger brother's funeral. He died within 2 weeks from primary renal cancer which had metastasised to brain, spine, liver and lungs.  So he was grieving from that loss straight into this. He has got a place on the TRACC C trial...randomised to the active group. He has found out he is ctDNA negative so is waiting to start capecitabine shortly. We feel like we are still trying to come to terms with everything at the moment and wondering how the capecitabine will affect him. We have not seen our grandson who lives overseas since October and he's wanting to visit but we're not sure whether to invite him for my husbands first rest week of his first cycle.
  • Hi   and I see it’s your first post so a warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but I am sorry to hear about your husband’s diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be such a challenging and stressful time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' support challenges can help you a lot.

As you see the Community is divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you look to join and post in our dedicated…….

      Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer

    ……. support group.

This group is a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from family members who are navigating the same support journey.

As for the practical and emotional challenges of supporting your husband and indeed yourself you may benefit from joining and posting in our general cancer……

      Carers only

……. support group where you will connect with a wide range of members navigating the exact same support challenges.
