My parter is about to start Taxol (paclitaxel) chemotherapy and we are worried about pain/numbness in his hands and feet resulting as side-effects.
Can anyone recommend a specific ice glove or socks which are practical to take to hospital. Previous chemo sessions at our hospital have always involved long waits and delays. Adding that to the journey time, I can't see how anything we bring in will stay frozen long enough to remain effective.
Thanks
Sue
Hi McTonsil …… this is something that I have no real experience in doing so let’s see if anyone picks up in your post who has.
I had over 750hrs of very strong chemo but when it comes to blood cancers (I have lived with and been treated for 2 rare types of T-Cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas for over 25 years)…… it is detrimental to use any cold cooling to any part of the body like cooling caps as this reduces the effectiveness of Lymphoma treatments…..
Although for one specific drug that is actually derived from Nitrogen mustards (Mustard Gas!!!) I did have to chain suck ice pops for 30mins before, all the way through the 45min infusion and for 30mins after….. as not doing this would result in the inside of my mouth basically burning and turning into one big ulcer!!!
I did have significant peripheral neuropathy in my hands and feet but this eventually clears up one treatment was completed.
