The day has come, first session of 6, Carboplatin/Paclitaxel this morning @ 9.30am, I’m advised about 3 hours.

Obviously I’m dreading the unknown of what the side effects are going to be for me. I’ve picked up lots of tips from all you lovely people on here.

Enjoy your Bank Holiday Weekend everyone.

  • Hi

Hope it all goes smoothly for you. Sending hugs.

  • Hi

All the best with your treatment-I’m glad you’ve decided to go ahead with it. Please try to remember that everyone is different when it comes to side effects, so don’t automatically assume that you will get some or all of them-you need to be advised of the possible side effects when you consent to the treatment, but it might be easier than you think to get through.

  • Do hope it went well and my side affects kicked in day 4 -8 ( chemo day 1) but were manageable and I felt great in week three . My second session yesterday .
Best wishes and my bloods were very good too after session one so my immunity was probably normal.
    best wishes B

  • It was a very long day, there for 9.20, left at 5.20. I didn’t Opt for the Cold Cap either, I think being post hysterectomy and on with chemo and probs radiotherapy I’ve enough to contend with. Nurses were all lovely and answered by ever growing questions. Other than a slight hot spot at one point where the cannula went in it was all plain sailing, they adjusted the flow and it soon went away.
Added bonus of being fed and watered too, didn’t expect that.
Fate was meant to happen and the lady sat across from me was my old school friend, I never recognised her (very poorly indeed) but she recognised me, I was wondering if I still look 15 at 57 years old Joy

Had a good nights sleep, woke up to an extremely red flushed face, rang the 24hour helpline and they told me it was a reaction to the Carboplatin and to take a Piriton and 2 paracetamols every four hours and to ring back at 7.45pm to see if it’s settled (hasn’t as of yet at 4.40pm). One question they ask is for your temperature, just typical I can’t find my thermometer. Shall try a neighbour before I ring back.

Regarding my biggest fear of nausea, too early to say because they told me to take sickness tablets for 2 or 3 days anyway so that might be masking it.

Thanks ladies, I hope you are all keeping well and able to enjoy the bank holiday.

I know this is the calm before the storm and I will probs get brought down a peg or too in the next couple of days.

Any food/drink recommendations to help my immunity?

  • Hi

Well done getting through your first treatment.

There is a list of foods you should avoid while having chemo, I don't know if you have that.

I found that eating little & often helps (I've had 5 of 6 treatments) and not eating if I don't fancy it. Plain biscuits also help.

  • Morning.

how are you doing did your flushed face get resolved?

  • Morning Clair,

I was advised to take Piriton and 2 paracetamols every 4 hours and 24 hours later it was gone. They have made notes that I have had a reaction to the Carboplatin, although it didn’t bother me, just looked very red.

Today is  day 4 and I was up 5 times  in the night having big wees, unusual for me as it’s once a night at the most, so I guess today I need to keep hydrated. I’ve noticed my mouth getting dry and tongue and tad sore. I also noticed yesterday when I scratched an itch on my head that hurt too, was like scratching a fresh sunburn is how I’d descibe it.

Thanks for asking, hope you are feeling better.

  • I’m good thanks, and had a good day yesterday, felt normal and no fatigue. Jus5 been for my blood test prior to next potions on Weds - very quiet and quick there today.

glad things resolved for you. Have you been given any mouthwash? Found that really helped for me.

  • Hi waidh, my chemo 2 equally long last Friday ( 8.30 to 5.30 pm ). Almost asymptomatic on day 2 and 3 but nausea been bad since Monday so just worrying myself with the potential side affects of anti nausea med Ondansetron ? All down to anxiety though ;  but will try peppermint tea first and will hopefully find out if green tea is okay in my nurse check up later . Fed up of adding any more side affects to my funny cocktail of drugs so far so thinking back to being pregnant and what I used then Grinning?

very sore abdomen and headaches but this Sunday, day 9 will be much better I hope .

  • I was given Metoclopramide for anti sickness with PAC and Carbo, interestingly they gave the metroclopramide to me as just in case ones after ondansertron with the cisplatin I had with radio. First cycle of PAC/carbo I had real bad stomach and at day 9 phoned the hospital and they thought it was the metoclopramide that I had been taking, so stopped taking and stomach improved. Second cycle I finished the metrocromide one earlier than I should have done on Day 4, as I had been pulling some ivy down from fence leant over a felt sick ( lesson learned) after that I didn’t take any anti yucky tablets just relied on lemon sweets, lemonade, ginger biscuits and mints, and felt a hell of a lot better that cycle.

i found second cycle lot better than first, and today after third infusion yesterday feeling pretty good, have done a fair bit in garden, but now relaxing, as had nurse tell me yesterday don’t boom no bust with your energy levels.

    hope you feel better soon
