Hi
I wonder if anyone has any advice or tips please. Have had itchy hive rash develop over last couple of days. Pharmacy gave me some antihistamine tablets and moisture cream but not cleared up.
Thank you
Sue
Hello suze99
Am sorry that you have developed an itchy rash due to your chemotherapy. I had lots of skin rashes and irritation during my chemo last year. I would suggest that you call you CNS and explain that that you have taken the antihistamine tablets and been using the cream from pharmacy but that there is no improvement. They may well be able to give you an alternative or stronger anti histamine and a mild steroid cream. They won't mind you calling- I did often with mine.
Hope this helps, it must be so irritating in this hot weather.

Hi Jane
Thanks for your reply. It got worse overnight but calmed down a bit now. As you say think the heat is making it worse.
Managed to get a GP appointment and he's given me stronger antihistamine and some cream so hopefully it will settle down.
If not I'll have to ring the assessment unit at the hospital and possibly go up. It's hard knowing how long these things take to clear up.
Thank you again

Hi Sue
That's good- hopefully it will help. My skin used to take 2-3 days to show signs of settling down.
Cool showers helped a bit, anything too warm made the itching worse. Tempting to put a fan on in this weather but I found they could be quite drying and didn't help with the itching.
My chemo was in the heat wave last year! I used the bottles of cooling spray water to keep cool- the ones for hot weather/sun burn etc. Pretty much only water in but would still check with your team as you won't want to wash the cream off but I did find them soothing.
I used to also put a damp flannel in the fridge and use that. I had one of those thin cooling pillow inserts as well, you put them in the freezer and then in a pillowcase next to you- helped a bit
