Hello,
Wonder if anyone else is in the situation of stopping the chemo with 5 and not 6 cycles.
I got call from consultant and cancer nurse - both.
They are recommending I don't come in for chemo tomorrow - my 6th and final. The treatment is now reduced from 4 1/2 hrs of paclitaxel and carboplatin, to 1 hr Carbo. This is to avoid people being there for long due to CV and increasing the risks. They feel the benefit of a final chemo of 1 hr, is outweighed by the risks of the CV now at its peak. They were very clear that this was purely for my safety, and not because of capacity, which they have quite enough of.
I suppose my worry was anyway about asymptomatic CV people - which could be any of the staff - as without masks and PPE, they could pass it on to us.
I had anyway decided to go - after they talked to me last Friday when I called to check if it was going ahead.
But now also was told that the chemo has moved to the Ulster Independent Clinic - which ofcourse has probably got unwell people coming in. Their recommendation is to stop at 5, but they've left the decision to me! Not funny. My head is all over the place.
Guess inclined to go with their opinions - they must know something we don't.
Anyone else in this situation?

I was supposed to change regime 3 ec 3 something else they gave me 4 ec and stopped due to CV. I don’t like it but under circumstances get it and I’m more relieved no more chemo and effects. Radiotherapy also reduced to 5 longer than 18 shorter. Time will tell we just have to trust the experts in this awful time. Stay safe x
Morning VM
My chemotherapy for bowel cancer was stopped 2 weeks ago via a telephone consultation with the oncologist. I had 10 weekly doses of Fluralolicil or F2U/FMU to go still this was for vascular invasion after successful tumor surgery last July. Just gotta wait for a CT scan now to c if got the all clear. I have recently had an emergency Ileostomy stoma bag fitted and have an appointment tomorrow on Wednesday 8th which the surgeon does want me to attend. With obviously what's going on it is all abit scary.
Stay safe
Mark
Hi Mark,
Thanks for getting back to me. What days we live in really...shooting nerves to pieces sometimes!
You've had a rough time - I hope your appt went ok today with the surgeon. Praying all was well.
You stay safe too - lots of disinfectant is the key! I would be much happier going in for my radiotherapy next week if I had some masks to wear!

Hi Bumf,
I suspect they are adjusting everything because of the situation. At least we know they are considering the dangers and trying to mitigate cancer vs covid. What mad days we are in really. It feels so surreal. 6mths ago it was just cancer and chemo. Now it's cancer, chemo and covid. Trifle over the top I think!
My radiotherapy starts next week. I sure would be happier if I had a mask to wear for the sessions....feel very vulnerable going into cancer centre, with the Covid Hospital now sitting just next to it! Seriously????
You stay safe. And we just have to trust that they are doing the right things.
