Nearly through, but struggling

Just had 27/30 weekly chemo today, 5FU only. At this stage I am permanently tired, and loose 2 or 3 days each week to this. I have tried most techniques but am struggling.

Anyone got any suggestions? I would walk but there is no energy. Just need to get through 3 more sessions.

    Hi Gemmary

I'm sorry to hear your tiredness but look at how well you have done to only have 3 more sessions left. I also have 5fu Fluralolicil and have only had 6 weekly doses so far of my 30 sessions.

    Regards Mark

  • Good luck with your treatment, you are the first I've come across with this 30 week treatment. Mine has been stopped twice and reduced twice, so there is some leeway in this regime, but they get added on the end! At one point I thought I'd stop half way, but by only taking it 2 or 3 weeks at a time, I am at last nearly there. I mention this in case it helps you in the future as 30 weeks sounded ok at the beginning, but didn't by about week 10!!!!

Fingers crossed eh...... So far my main side effects seem to be swinging from constipation for up to a week with bloatedness stomach cramps and gurgling and rumbling noises and trapped wind. Last week was the worst where I struggled to keep food down and seemed to be sick everytime I ate something due to the acid/gas in my stomach and lost half a stone in a week. I haven't experienced the hand and foot issues yet but like I say only 6 sessions in.

  • Having been very very close to being blocked just before the op, I am not prepared to be be constipated for more than a day, and take 1 senna. Or lactulose is gentle. Other side effects are familiar, except  for the actual being sick ( and it would be the only side effect that would be useful, to loose weight!!! Might have been a weird benefit!) Keep going, it is supposed  to be worth it. At my next oncologist meeting in a fortnight they will book the CT scan for Jan, before I see the collectoral people again at the end of Jan. Next I guess it will be the full range of repeat tests to check how things are in Mar /Apr. Fingers crossed.
