Hello all,

So I start my treatment on Thursday I am a combined patient. 25 Radiotherapy with 5 Chemotherapy!

I’m just wondering what I can expect? I’ve read online people take snacks with them and extra clothing I wasn’t told this in my pre assessment so naturally I’m not sure what to do.

Also does anyone have any expo with cisplatin?

Thanks

  • Hello and welcome to the community. Do you mean you are having chemo sessions and then on to radiotherapy? if so, the chemo sessions are a long day in the chair. Take drinks and snacks and wear comfortable clothes, and something to keep you busy. I had intravenous cisplatin and didn't really suffer any side effects other than a bit of tiredness. I went on to six weeks of pelvic radiotherapy with again no real effects. In my case the side effects came along after treatment finished with fatigue and erratic bowels for a while. If you can let us know what you are being treated for, we can point you to a group where others have had the same treatment as you. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

    Hello Rily

No I’ll be having my chemo one day a week along side my radio. I was told today the chemo is quick but the saline flushes take longer.

So I have grade 2 cervical I’m in the group for that, once I’ve finished this course of treatment I’ll be having 3 sessions of brachytherapy.

    Thank you

  • Hi Kirsty. Slightly different to my treatment, but you are right regarding the saline. The actual drug is administered over a short time whereas the saline drip takes a lot longer. This is to keep your kidneys in good working order. The ladies in the cervical group would be able to give you a better idea of what to expect as they may have had the same treatment. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
