My mother in law begins chemotherapy next week having been diagnosed with exstensive Small cell lung cancer. I would like to pack her a small bag of things to take with us and would appreciate any ideas. Things that are practical and helpful or things that may be more about trying to make it a less awful experience. She loves a foot massage so I'm taking in some lovely lotion incase she fancies a foot rub. Any other thoughts and ideas would be greatly received as we are very new to this. Thank you

Hi there LifeofRiley.  Sorry to here about your mothering in law. What a loving idea with foot rub. Make sure you have food. And drink they often give out sandwiches but just in case I took my iPad and down loaded games. It can be a tiring day as it all depends on how long you are there. Comfortable clothes are a must. As you have a lot of water so frequent trips to the loo. Good luck Lorayne x

I download podcasts for my mum in case she feels too tired to read. Mints and Sherbet Lemons are good for snacks too, mum sometimes feels a bit queasy and they seem to help. Maybe some hand cream and lip balm too? With the foot lotion she can have a bit of a pamper.

Lots of love to you all hope she gets on ok next week. It's scary at first but everyone is so lovely and mum now spends most of the time chatting to everyone while shes having her chemo.

    Ness x

Thanks for your replies. Keeping busy is keeping us going at the moment. We'll take it one session at a time and hope for minimal side effects so we can make some lasting family memories.
