Childcare with terminally ill husband

Hi lovely people

I'm in desperate need of direction on where to get financial help with childcare for my under 2.

My husband is terminally ill and we are at appointments constantly. I've given up work to care for him and our 2 children but I'm using our universal credit to pay for nursery for our little one. We get no funding until he's 2 and I'm quickly running out of money.

DWP said we're getting the maximum for our situation but nursery costs are thousands. Especially recently because my husband is having radiotherapy every day. My mum.in law helps but can't every day as shes elderly.

Any advice on charities or who to contact to help with these costs? I'm drowning!

Thank you all

X

  • Ahh yes my hubby was 67. He didnt want to claim it but the Macmillan team told him to as he was entitled  to it & had paid taxes all his life & would not get much more of his state pension after paying into it for over 50 years. I think this is disgusting. I think, me being his widow should at least be entitled to some of it.

  • Detty, are you getting bereavement support payment? It isnt megabucks but it is better than nothing.

Sam, let us know about ill health pension. If he paid into a pension he can usually access it early if he has a terminal diagnosis. Again you may be able to get help with applying. Good luck with it, virtual hug coming your way xxx

  • Hi Malengwa.

I've not applied for anything as I'm lucky enough to have some savings plus hubby had terminal illness insurance which came through the week before he died so He didn't have chance to spend any of it.
