Hi, my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer last week after a routine lung cancer screening done by our area health authority. Mine was clear so we were shocked by his diagnosis.
We saw the consultant who delivered the news with his PET scan being shown to us and a lymph node also looks to be involved. The consultant said they are looking at curative but, he has to have a brain CT before going forward as if it has spread that changes things .
We are on the verge of me retiring and him in a few years and the feelings of sadness, fear and hopelessness are overwhelming.
He is for the most part being his normal self which I appreciate and I am doing everything I can to keep things as normal as possible but my main emotion at the moment is fear
Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.
Well done for finding us at such an early stage in this journey, just about everyone here will recognize that fear of the unknown just after a diagnosis and many describe it as the most difficult time of all.
My wife's cancer is very different, Leiomyosarcoma but she has quite a lot of secondaries in her lungs. Her cancer is not curable, at least at the moment, but otherwise has now been stable for over 10 years - living with cancer as she puts it and not bothering me so i don't bother it.
It did seem that Janice was actually coping much better than me at times, then I did a living with less stress course that really helped. They helped me to realise that I was worrying about the future all the time and that was stopping me from enjoying every day, that can help do in when we have a bad day remembering tomorrow will be better. Conscious breathing techniques are good too for handling bad news when live decided to throw us another curveball but also for getting some sleep and relaxation.
Hope you do not have to wait too long for the CT scan.
<<<hugs>>
