Hi everyone, im new to forum. Ive recently joined to see if its the right place for me ro access support around my caring role.
Ive been the main carer of a friend who's living with Alzheimer's, which he's had for just over 10 years. This year, he's been diagnosed with Cancer of the base of his tounge with lymph node involvement. We were told this is terminal, not long after his diagnosis.
Is there anyone else in a similar situation?
Hi Munchkin138
Welcome to our community I hope you find it both informative and supportive.
I am Steve one of the community champions and my experience with cancer is via my wife who is living with Leiomyosarcoma.
We do have some general advice on dealing with our own emotions when we a caring for someone with cancer that I find quite helpful, you can see this here.
Has your friend had a needs assessment, if can sometimes be helpful to get a carers assessment as well to ensure you get all the support you might need. Our GP surgery also registers people acting as carers to try to help ensure we keep well.
<<hugs>>
Steve
Hi Steve,
Thank you, I have tried to get a carers assessment but always been told that im not entitled to one as Im classed as a PA rather than a carer. My friend has had a needs assessment which is pointless as they told me that nothing has changed
I am registered with my GP as a carer and they have been great when I've needed to see someone.
