My mum was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma in January, she should have started treatment next week however she’s too symptomatic to tolerate the immunotherapy.
has anyone else dealt with this? She’s in hospital until such time as food medication ect is all under control
she also has no stomach was removed 12 months ago due to her first diagnosis
I’m terrified she won’t get well enough for treatment, she’s lost so much weight she has dropped 4 dress sizes in 6 months
mum her next of kin to as the eldest child she doesn’t want us to become her carers as/when things deteriorate she is insisting on a home or hospice. I’m just finding it all a struggle
A warm welcome to our community I hope you find in both informative and supportive.
There are plenty of here whose loved ones have had treatment postponed due to some medical issue or another - in my wife's cancer usually because she had a temperature or some abnormal blood result but I cannot recall seeing issues at the level you are talking about. You talk about a first diagnosis above - can I ask what that was.
With both my dad and my wife's dad while cancer was not a significant issue they both ended up in poor health towards the end of their lives and while we did care for them at home for some time eventually we ended up with them going in to a home.
I am glad you came on here as you note you are finding things a struggle, I certainly recognize that with my wife and I found it so helpful when I finally reached out for some support. Post on here whenever but it you need a quick fix remember you can always ring the helpline too

Hi
many thanks for your support it’s appreciated
my mums first diagnosis was stomach cancer, it was within the internal lining found via biopsy due to extreme reflux, they didn’t expect cancer it came as a shock to the drs as well as us.Therefore surgery to remove the whole stomach was deemed necessary for the best outcome as they couldn’t tell us how much of the lining was affected as they couldn’t see it themselves, it was deemed as caught very early.
the cancer she has now diagnosed 10 months after her first is in the linings of her stomach cavity, it’s a very rare cancer from what we have been told usually seen in people who have had exposure to asbestos to which she has no knowledge of exposure.
Hi,
Thanks, that is helpful in understanding your situation.
Asbestos was used in all sorts of things including brakes on cars and in some wallpapers so it is still quite easy to get exposed without knowing it. Something that was not too unusual was for someone to get exposed from washing the clothes of people who were working with asbestos.
There is a specific charity that deals with cases of Mesothelioma that may be helpful - https://www.mesothelioma.uk.com/
