Hi, I have just joined the group.

on Monday my Mum had to have emergency surgery to remove’Sid the tumour’ from her tummy. We only found out last Thursday, all over the weekend she was very poorly to the point she was taken into hospital. Monday I got the call to say she was going to theatre early afternoon. I was already on my way to see her.
it was the worse day of my life being told she has a huge tumour and it’s Cancerous. I had to ask the questions that I never thought I would have to ask, my brother came to support me while Mum was in theatre. She mad it and we’re so grateful to the Consultant for saving her life. It hasn’t hit Mum yet as she is on lots of drugs. I keep crying which is my emotions coming out but not in front of her. Today we heard it weighed 2.5 kg. Is there any help I can get so I can support Mum. X

  • Hi

Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both useful and supportive and perhaps that first step in getting some help for you. You have done well in recognizing that to be our best help we need some support ourselves.

I am Steve, one of the community champions and my experience with cancer is with my wife who has Leiomyosarcoma though in her case the cancer is currently stable so we are living with cancer rather than anything else.

One of the pages I find quite helpful is your feelings when someone has cancer as recognizing these emotions and being able to accept them as normal and valid can help to make them less overwhelming.

Of course you are more than welcome to post on here anytime as someone is always listening but if you might want to talk to someone the helpline is open from 8am to 8pm 7 days a week. If you find face-to-face might works well for you it can be helpful to look for local groups using our in your area tool giving your postcode - sometimes it helps to use the hospital postcode too.

    <<hugs>>
