Waiting for my wife to come out of surgery

Hi all. Thought I should finally post and say hello.

My wife is currently in surgery for a right mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy. ER+5 grade 3. It's grown even since diagnosis 6 weeks ago, and we're both pretty convinced she has secondaries due to right sided lung issues (breathlessness, pain in right shoulder) and right sided rib pain, nevermind everything else that is right sided that's been going on since easter.

I'm terrified. I keep having horrible intrusive negative thoughts that just knock the wind out of me. And I honestly can't even imagine how SHE must feel as she's the one who has it.

She should be out of theatre in a couple hours, hopefully all will be well surgery wise and post op. Then all the chemo and whatever else they decide will start, as soon as humanly possible due to it being aggressive.

My head in a mess.
I love her so much.
Guess I just needed to vent.

  • Hi

Welcome to our community, I hope you find being here useful.

Fingers crossed for a successful surgery, I know too well that waiting to hear they have been moved to recovery and then back to the ward, glad you found space to vent on here.

Hope you get some clarity on the next stage too.

    <<hugs>>

  • Hi BigLors, I hope your wife is out of theatre and in recovery now. I know so well the fear, panic and confusion that can overwhelm you at this time. My daughter has been fighting an aggressive breast cancer for 16 months now - 8 rounds of brutal chemo, 3 surgeries, 15 sessions of radiotherapy and now she's just over half way through a further 14 chemo cycles. At first, I was beyond desperate and didn't think I could cope. But I did, and you will too. You take it one day at a time, take all the help and support you are offered.

Keep posting on here, it has been a lifeline for me.

Very best wishes to you and your wife. x
