Welcome to our community, I hope you find it helpful.
Your situation does sound very difficult but not that unusual and might just reflect a difference between the generations. Sometimes cancer patients need to feel in control of parts of their life when they feel they cannot control the cancer.
What I find helps is being able to recognize my own emotions and I find some of the advice in your feelings when someone has cancer quite helpful.
